Maarten Brouwer

Maarten started his carreer as a diplomate in 1988. He worked intermittently with assignments in The Hague in Tanzania, Sudan, Mali en Kenya. Since 2009 he held the rank of ambassador based both in The Hague and in Mali (also covering Burkina Faso and Niger) and Kenya (also covering Somalia, Seychelles and UNEP) respectfully. In his carreer he specialized in economic relations, development cooperation, stability. Moreover, he specialized in organizational development through his work as knowledge management, performance management and quality assurance.
During his 14 years in Africa, he has been instrumental in improving business climate, trade and investment. He is a strong believer in economic development as the backbone of sustainable social advancement and the crucial role of private sector in driving economic development. The Netherlands has many opportunities to offer to African economies as African businesses can provide interesting options to Dutch partners.
Maarten is married, father of three children and grandfather of seven grandchildren. He retired in 2024.
