  • As part of the incoming Uganda Agri- and Horticultural Trade Mission, the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Brussels and the NABC is co-hosting a business seminar on the 16th of April, 13:00–18:00 at Titaan, The Hague. The seminar will focus on strengthening agri-value chains through Ugandan-Dutch collaboration, aiming to foster sustainable partnerships and economic growth.

Uganda’s agricultural sector is a key economic driver, with horticulture, commodities (coffee, tea), and livestock/poultry playing critical roles in food security and export revenue. Uganda is East Africa’s leading exporter of coffee and a major horticultural producer, but faces challenges such as post-harvest losses, EU regulatory compliance (e.g., Deforestation Regulation), and smallholder farmer integration into global value chains.

The Netherlands, a global leader in agri-innovation, brings expertise in precision farming, seed technology, sustainable feed, and market access strategies. Dutch companies and institutions are pioneers in climate-smart agriculture, circular economy practices, and inclusive value chain development, aligning with Uganda’s goals for sustainable growth and food security.

This seminar will be opened by the Major General (Rtd) Mr. David Kasura-Kyomukama, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) of Uganda and explore how Ugandan-Dutch collaboration can enhance resilience, productivity, and market access in Uganda’s agri-sector. Two interactive breakout sessions will address:

Breakout Session 1: From Farm to Market: Building Resilient Horticulture & Commodity Value Chains

Uganda’s horticulture and commodity sectors hold significant potential for economic growth and food security, but face persistent challenges in market readiness, compliance with international standards, and smallholder farmer integration. This session will explore how Ugandan businesses, through collaborative efforts with Dutch companies, can enhance the resilience and competitiveness of these value chains. Participants will discuss strategies to reduce post-harvest losses, meet EU regulatory requirements (such as the Deforestation Regulation), and improve access to global markets. The session will also highlight innovative agronomic practices, seed technology, and value addition techniques that can support smallholder farmers and agribusinesses to thrive in both domestic and export markets. By fostering collaboration between Ugandan producers and Dutch agri-innovation leaders, this session aims to identify practical, scalable solutions for building stronger, more sustainable horticulture and commodity value chains.

Breakout Session 2: Securing the Future: Innovations in Poultry & Livestock for Food Security

Uganda’s poultry and livestock sectors are rapidly expanding, driven by rising domestic demand and regional trade opportunities. However, challenges such as disease outbreaks, feed quality, and limited market access continue to hinder the sector’s full potential. This session will focus on how Ugandan-Dutch partnerships can drive food security through innovative, sustainable, and technology-driven approaches in poultry and livestock value chains. Participants will explore advancements in feed formulation, genetic improvement, farm management, and value addition, as well as strategies to enhance market linkages and resilience. By leveraging Dutch expertise in precision livestock farming, circular economy practices, and inclusive business models, this session will seek to identify opportunities for scaling productivity, improving sustainability, and securing long-term food security in Uganda.
