Access to quality, nutritious food is essential for human well-being, and smallholder farmers in Africa play a crucial role in achieving global food security. Recognised by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and other international bodies, these farmers are vital for ensuring a stable global food supply, enhancing local food systems, and improving household nutrition.
For the past decade, 2SCALE, an incubator programme managing a portfolio of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in the agri-food sectors, has focused on promoting food security across the African continent. It supports private partners—companies and farmer groups—in producing, transforming, and delivering quality food products to local, national, and regional markets, including those at the Base of the Pyramid.
2SCALE and its partners are eager to share their journey, including both successes and challenges, with the hope of inspiring you to join them as a Food Soldier. Join us on the 10th of October 2024, at Filmhuis Den Haag/The Hague for ‘Food Soldiers: Promoting Inclusive Agribusiness with 2SCALE‘, featuring the premiere of the documentary ‘Food Soldiers’ and a platform for dialogue on advancing food security in Africa.
Express your interest in joining us in person (limited availability, and registration does not guarantee admission) or online by registering today. Be a part of fostering partnerships for sustainable development and securing a stable food supply for all.

About the Documentary – Food Soldiers
The Symposium will premiere the documentary ‘Food Soldiers,’ which follows Nigerian photojournalist and filmmaker Benson on a journey to uncover the causes and solutions to his country’s growing food insecurity crisis. Food insecurity in Nigeria has risen by 133% in recent years, prompting critical questions: What are the underlying issues, and what can be done to address them?
Benson’s investigation leads him to 2SCALE, a grassroots-focused initiative that empowers communities through agribusiness. The documentary captures Benson’s encounters with key figures in the 2SCALE network and the broader food supply chain, highlighting the essential roles of public-private partnerships and the empowerment of smallholder farmers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in achieving food security.
As Benson explores these dynamics, he identifies the various actors—smallholder farmers, SMEs, and supporting entities—as frontline “food soldiers” in the quest for food security. His journey extends beyond Nigeria, touching on efforts in neighbouring countries like Benin and Mali, showcasing the global importance of partnerships and community empowerment in fostering sustainable solutions.
