After a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Crop Science at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria; as Musa began to interact within the agricultural space, he gained first-hand experience of how improved agricultural technologies can play a critical role in uplifting and improving livelihoods of resource disadvantaged farmers. This led him to study and earn a Master’s degree in Genetics and Plant breeding at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria. He then worked in two Seed Companies: West African Cotton Company (WACOT) and Maslaha Seeds Nigerian Limited both in Nigeria.
To build capacity, within this period, he was nominated (twice) to attend courses on Hybrid seed production at the International Institute for tropical agriculture (IITA), Ibadan and then, the International Centre for maize and wheat improvement (CIMMYT), Zambia. This course was meant to develop capacity of young plant breeders within the African and Asian continent. He has some experience working within the development space; first with an NGO implementing the agriculture component of the USAID sponsored Feed the Future livelihoods Project and as an agriculture training consultant/facilitator, building capacity of farmers for OCP fertilizer company in Nigeria.
