The complete PDP undertook a trade mission in May for tours around the harbours of Tema and Takoradi. Focal point was meeting local stakeholders as the PDP, a first acquaintance with the PDP and its approach, and invitations for collaboration.
The PDP was welcomed by Richard Anamoo, Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and many others of the GPHA. The conversation centred on matching supply and demand. STC BV held a presentation about the cluster approach. In addition to the GPHA, talks were held with locally active businesses (among others AMPT, Tema Container Terminal and Bolloré) about matching supply and demand.
The prominent position of developing local education in the programme of the PDP meant that there was ample opportunity for this during the mission. DEEP, Deltares and UNESCO-IHE organised a guest lecture and a workshop for the students of the University of Ghana and the Maritime University. With a turnout of 30 people and many productive discussions, this could be labelled a success. A meeting with the GPHA in Takoradi, which included explanation of developments there, and a meeting with Dutch and Ghanaian companies active in the port and logistics sectors (organised by GHANECC) contributed to the success of the mission as well.
