Last Thursday, the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven was the scene of the Africa Business Club of October. Within the framework of ‘NABC goes on safari’, NABC is organizing the Business Clubs throughout the Netherlands of which the gathering in North-Brabant was a good example. Here, Philips made its venue available where the focus lied on healthcare development in Africa. The audience included over seventy people, representing Dutch and Belgium companies as well as African embassies, who all enjoyed the interesting presentations given by Bob van der Bijl, Harry Verhaar and Jan-Willem Scheijgrond that focused on the latest healthcare developments, projects and products in African countries.
After these presentations the audience was shown diverse demonstrations of Philips’ latest products and projects, such as the smokefree woodstove, automated malaria diagnosis projects and the recently developed community light centers. These demonstrations were very valuable for fellow colleagues in the health care sector as well as for managers who are active in different sectors. Tim Mulder, Africa Manager at Victron Energy acknowledges this: “It’s very functional and interesting to have an indication what and how other companies do business in Africa.” During the demo-tours there was much room for creating new contacts and enhancing existing business relations. Paco van de Ven describes this networking sessions as “casual, amenable and inspiring.”
This time, we replaced the beloved ‘bitterballen’ for a seated three-course dinner. Restaurant the Lounge served us a lovely fish dinner, including swordfish and bass. The dinner was a perfect opportunity to have either an informal chat with like-minded Africa experts or a good conversation with your table-companion. Tim Mulder underlines that “this Africa Business Club was a perfect opportunity to meet fellow colleagues, who will become, if not immediately, valuable contacts in the long term.”
