Africa Business Club - April

After the interesting visit at Voerman International last Thursday, NABC will cooperate next month with International SOS in organizing the third Africa Business Club (ABC) of 2014. This Business Club will take place neither at International SOS nor at NABC, but we are happy to welcome you at the 'Wereldmuseum'in Rotterdam.

International SOS provides integrated medical, clinical, and security services to organisations with international operations. Services include planning and preventative programs, in-country expertise, and emergency response.

This time we will focus on .... Besides there will be an interview for International SOS in order to gain in-depth knowledge of their activities and learn from their experiences in Africa. You can submit a question for International SOS beforehand here.

Speakers

Bob van der Bijl: Bob van der Bijl is the Managing Director of the Netherlands-African Business Council (NABC). Bob holds a Master-degree in Economics and he has been the driver of NABC’s growth since 2007. His responsibilities include business development; government relations; political lobby; consumer markets & (financial) services and advising African governments on trade and investment promotion. With more than 15 years of experience in the field of doing business in Africa, Bob is an expert in exploring business opportunities in Africa.

 

 

 

 

Hanno Onnes: is a Regional Security Manager for International SOS and Control risks. Based in Amsterdam he is responsible for advising clients on travel security matters including travel security policies, evacuation planning and on the ground evacuations. Hanno is part of the assistance centre team based in Paris covering the Central Europe and Maghreb Africa region.

Prior to joining Travel Security Services, Hanno worked as a Senior Operations Manager for the Crisis and Security Consultancy Team of Control Risks in London for 5 years.

Hanno recent projects include:

  • Drafting and reviewing travel security policies.
  • Evacuating client from South Sudan.
  • Operationally manage consultancy tasks in Europe and Africa.
  • Assisting client during the Arab spring, both from London as on the ground in Egypt.
  • Advising clients on security matters for hostile factory closures or restructurings.
  • Reviewing the security procedures.
  • Crisis management planning and training, including evacuation planning.
  • Physical intrusion testing for an oil and gas company.

Before joining Control Risks, Hanno worked for a law firm. Hanno has an LLM in International and European Law and wrote his thesis on the legal issues of the private security industry under International Law. Hanno recently completed the Security Management Consultancy Course.

Lars Petersen: is a Medical Director with International SOS, focusing on Medical Services and consultancies. Prior to assuming his current position, Lars Petersen has gained over 20 years of international experience within a number of multinational health agencies such as The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several Dutch NGO's, Medicine Sans Frontiers and several Universities He has practiced medicine in Norway, The Netherlands, The Dutch Antilles, Zambia and Kenya, and still works as a General Practitioner in The Netherlands. His main area of expertise is in General Medicine, Tropical and Infectious Medicine and Travel Medicine & International Health.  Lars Petersen graduated from Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands in 1988  as a Medical Doctor, and has since specialized in Tropical and General Medicine in The Netherlands. He has also published numerous articles on Infectious diseases and STD's in several Dutch and International Medical Journals.

Lars Petersen has a long experience as a consultant in General, Tropical and International Medicine, and is a guest lecturer at several medical institutions and universities.
