Amref is an international organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. It began as The Flying Doctors with the goal of medical help to provide to communities in remote regions in East Africa in 1957. Since then, Amref has expanded to become the largest African health care organization with programs in more than 30 countries. With more than a half century of experience in the delivery of health care and the building of health care systems, Amref delivers a sustainable improvement for health for those who need it most.
They continue to work together with relevant stakeholders. Amref has outstanding relationships in the African continent, ranging from community to local and national authorities, which makes them an attractive partner for the businesses with ambitions in Africa.
A prime example, is their partnership with Philips, a company with various innovations which are developed for the African context. Amref and Philips develop programs that address the goals of both organisations. Together with Achmea they carry out research and work together in a similar manner. Amref also works together with start-ups that push innovation that is interesting for the African continent. In this way, they work as a partner on the continual development of Momala, a smartphone application that detects malaria.
