Judith van der Horst (1980) is our community coordinator and has been passionate about Africa since early childhood. In 2003 she first travelled to Africa to write her thesis at the University of Cape Town. One year later, Judith started her career in the corporate sector, but in 2011 she switched to human rights. As a research fellow for the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Judth conducted numerous capacity building seminars on comparative constitutional law and human rights in Sudan and South Sudan. After Max Planck, Judith joined the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit in Nairobi, Kenya where she was seconded to a local human rights NGO.
Judith has extensive work and travel experience in North, East and Southern Africa.
She holds an LLM from the Universiteit van Amsterdam and completed an Erasmus year at University College Dublin in Ireland. She speaks fluent Dutch, German and English and is currently studying French.In her free time, Judith runs Peaceful United, a foundation that promotes gender equality through sports.
